Patient Participation Group (PPG)

The purpose and aims of the PPG :-

  • They were developed to extend patient involvement with the NHS
  • To offer opinions in a constructive manner and to put forward ideas on behalf of other patients.
  • To improve the provision of health care.
  • To improve communication between surgery, patients and the wider community about matters concerning the surgery and health in general.
  • To provide assistance in development of new services.
  • To encourage a spirit of self help and support amongst patients to improve their health and social care.

 

What a PPG is not for

  • A forum for individual complaints
  • A tool for implementation of the Governments or any individuals pre-determined agenda

 

What it entails

  • The PPG is made up of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds whose employment and life experience can benefit the Practice.
  • A committee that meets regularly

 

The National Association of Patient Participation

  • This association aims to promote the role and benefits of PPGs to patients, the public and health professionals, to create more understanding of the value of true patient participation also to promote the support available from N.A.P.P. Find out more about them click here.
